New fees, updated guidelines support treatment of opioid use disorder

Jun 1, 2018

As of June 1, 2018, two new fees to compensate physicians for treatment of patients with opioid use disorder came into effect:

  • 13013 (Assessment for Induction of Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) for Opioid Use Disorder) is a new time-based fee to compensate physicians for the time it takes to do a full initial assessment (including complete medical and substance use history). Click here for more information.
  • 13014 (Management of OAT Induction for Opioid Use Disorder) compensates physicians for individual interactions with the patient during the first three days of OAT induction for opioid use disorder. Click here for more information.

Changes have also been made to 00039 (Management of Maintenance OAT for Opioid Use Disorder) to better reflect current practice. Click here for more information.

There is also a new GPAC guideline for diagnosis and management of opioid use disorder in primary care.
