FPSC Co-Chair Message: Evolving FPSC funding supports for inpatient & long-term care

Mar 5, 2024

The following message from the FPSC Co-Chairs was sent on March 5, 2024 to family physicians and the divisions of family practice.

Evolving FPSC funding supports for inpatient & long-term care: Aligning with the LFP Payment Model.

Dear Colleagues,

FPSC is changing its funding supports for family physicians who provide inpatient and long-term care in facilities to align with the LFP (Longitudinal Family Physician) Payment Model (Doctors of BC login required). The changes will provide a more consistent, transparent, and sustainable approach to family physician compensation for care in facilities and a more equitable approach across communities.

Family physicians are essential to the delivery of care in hospitals and long-term care facilities in BC, and as part of FPSC's commitment to sustaining comprehensive, longitudinal family practice, FPSC has provided support for over a decade for family physicians to maintain this service. FPSC recently provided bridge and stabilization funding until a more comprehensive approach becomes available.

Watch this video with Dr Sari Cooper, FPSC Co-Chair, and Angie Chan, Director, Primary Care Transformation Initiatives, Doctors of BC, to learn more about how FPSC is evolving its funding supports for family physicians who provide inpatient and long-term care in facilities.

FPSC will be working together with the divisions of family practice to realize the full potential of these system changes and to support the divisions in the work they need to do as we move forward together. Over the next few weeks, FPSC will host interactive Q&A sessions for the divisions of family practice. Information on how to register for these sessions will be emailed to the division executive directors and physician leads.

Together, we've achieved major milestones in transforming primary care and its foundational building blocks. Evolving FPSC's supports to align with the LFP Payment Model is one major step of our journey to strengthen family medicine.
